Mount Carmel students answer
questions on being a Cub . . .

Your Question:
I'm interested in joining clubs at MCA.  I know you have great dance teams and sports teams, but what about activities for those of us who aren't gifted in those areas?

Answer from Katie:
I can honestly say that I am not a great athlete, and I certainly cannot dance; however I still manage to be greatly involved.  Whether it may be honor societies, school plays or student council, MCA offers over 40 clubs that fit every type of personality or talent.

Your Question:
How much homework does a student have every night?  How are you able to manage your schoolwork with co-curricular activities?

Answer from Rebecca:
A student's homework varies depending on what courses she is taking.  Some nights you may only have a little written homework, and some nights you may have 2 tests the next day.  However, MCA makes it easy to manage your work with your activities.  In the middle of the day, we have a 50 minute independent study period that gives you time to work on homework, visit a tutoring lab, visit your counselor or see a teacher for help.

Your Question:
I am interested in playing sports at your school.  Are there teams that I can be involved with if I am just an average athlete?

Answer from Ashley:
As an eighth grader, there are several teams you can join:  basketball, cross country, track, golf, soccer, swimming, volleyball and softball offer great opportunities to develop your skills.  Additionally, we have our intramural sports program at lunch which allows everyone to play games and have fun!

Your Question:
What is your daily schedule?  What do you like about the schedule?

Answer from Emily:
We have four 75 minute class periods that rotate each day, and a 50 minute lunch and a 50 minute independent study.  I enjoy our block schedule with our classes because the work load for each class is distributed over a longer time.  It keeps learning interesting to not have the same classes each day.

Your Question:
Are your classes lecture and no fun?  I am interested in challenging academics, but I would like to have fun while I learn.

Answer from Lauren:
Not all classes are lecture at MCA.  Some do lecture, but every class does at least one project a semester, such as an essay or group assessment.  All of my classes are fun and everyone participates to make class enjoyable, yet still a learning place.

Looking back on my high school years, I realize how well Mount Carmel prepared me for life after high school.  Having a firm foundation in Math, English, Science and many other areas allowed me to excel in college and launch my career.  But Mount Carmel provided me with so much more than a strong academic background - the spirituality, encouragement and confidence that Mount Carmel instills in each student allows graduates to truly stand out in a crowd and make their dreams come true.  I feel fortunate to have been a part of Mount Carmel Academy, and I am proud to attribute much of my happiness and success to a great high school experience.
