Let us Restore Mount Carmel

As Mount Carmel Academy begins the recovery and restoration process from Hurricane Katrina, we ask God to bless us. We know that we are not alone in this horrific experience. We ask God for the courage, strength and faith that we all need. Sadly, thousands of us who are members of our Carmelite family have been affected by this historic storm. We are all in a mode of trying to figure out how to move ahead and wonder what is the best thing to do for our families as we try to restore our lives.

Our beloved school, pre-Katrina.

Sept. 7th, nine days after the flood,
the water level has scarcely moved.

Sept. 27, the flood waters gone.

Mount Carmel's loss is great. We had 8 feet of water in all eight of our buildings on our campus and lost everything on the first floor of each building. As is true for all of us in Lakeview and other areas inundated with a similar amount of water, the water stood so long and took so long to drain, we were unable to salvage very much. The damage is unbelievable. We have had alums contact us with offers to help. Some offers have been to replace items of anything from carpet to desks, to pens and pencils. Other offers have been of monetary gifts which are direly needed to pay for the recovery and restoration process, as well as the contents. Others have offered to host fund raisers in their unaffected areas.

These photographs paint but a small picture of the total devastation we have suffered. If we ever needed you, we need you now. We have never been disappointed when we asked for help from our alums and their parents. If we are going to be able to have our school restored and open in January, we need your help if you are able to do so. No donation is too small. No prayer goes unheard.

Donations can be sent to:  MCA Katrina Restoration Fund, P.O. Box 1190, Metairie, LA 70004.  Thank you for whatever you can do for us. God bless you. You remain in our prayers. Please pray for us.

Lovingly,

Sister Camille Anne and Beth Ann Simno
