Something old, something new, something borrowed, something Brown

In trying to describe the return of cross country to Mount Carmel, I settled on a variation of the things a marriage ceremony is supposed to have as it seemed particularly appropriate.  The team was very successful this year winning both the District and Metro Championships and finishing 4th out of 27 teams at the State meet.

Something old:  Returning members from the 2005 team.  Before the storm, 43 young ladies were on the team.  25 members from the 2005 team returned a year later.  The first day of practice was a joyous occasion because the last time everyone ran together was the Saturday before the storm.  The girls decided to make the most of their season.

Something new:  More 8th graders.  This year's team was populated with 16 eighth graders.  These young ladies looked harmless until you unleashed them upon a race, where they beat all those who opposed them including state-caliber teams like Our Lady of Mercy from Baton Rouge, Trafton Academy from Hammond and Sacred Heart from New Orleans.  The eighth graders won a lot of team championships.  When they received their first trophy, some of the older girls thought they were playing a practical joke when they explained to the girls that they needed to name their trophies.  By the end of the season the 8th graders had named their trophies:  Pillar, Beatrice, Idna, Michelle, Lola, Weggina, and Henry Charles Patrick III.
