Something borrowed:  A reputation.  This year's team, like those before it, had to prove that they were competitive.  Mount Carmel has had the good fortune of producing 6 state championships, multiple individual champions, and numerous All-State performers.  This year's team lived up to the expectation and exceeded it when possible.  The varsity won 4 invitational meets during the year: the Bayou Boogie, the MCA Cub Run, the Jewel Sumner Invitational, and the District championship.  The last time Mount Carmel lost a district championship was 1994.  This year Mount Carmel placed 7 girls in the top 10 finishers at the district meet including individual District Champion Lauren Ybarzabal.  The Varsity team also won the New Orleans Metropolitan Championship for the third time in school history.  The lowest performance by the varsity was at the Mobile Challenge of Champions where the team ran against 9 of the top 10 teams from Alabama, and some of the best teams in the Gulf South.

A little thing like a hurricane did not deter the team from continuing a winning tradition.  Miss Ybarzabal continued another tradition by finishing 7th overall in the state championships, earning All-State honors.  Since 1999, Mount Carmel has had at least one individual among the state's best cross country runners.  Miss Ybarzabal also earned Composite All-State honors by virtue of her time being one of the 25 fastest among all of the state's 809 finishers at the State Meet.

Something Brown:  Running together again.  The day uniforms were given out was an exciting day.  Everyone anxiously waited for the moment when they would get to wear the singlet with the word "Cubs" written on it in white letters.  The chance to race together again was a cause of celebration.  It was a day worth waiting for:  a time when training partners and athletes would be able to race together for a school they loved.
